Tips for a Healthy Start This 2023

Tips for a Healthy Start This 2023

The beginning of a new year is the perfect opportunity to start a resolution to be healthier. Some might find the tradition silly, but the truth is, incorporating healthy habits into our daily routine and keeping true to our healthy new year’s resolutions will help us live a healthier, longer, and more enjoyable life.

While we all want to improve ourselves, some might feel a little lost when it comes to developing healthy habits, and that is okay. Your friends in your local Corpus Christi ER have put together these tips to help you get started on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.

Make better food choices

If one of your goals is to lose weight, stay away from diet pills and crash diets, as these will do more harm than good to your body. Instead, focus on making healthier food choices to strengthen your immune system and boost your energy levels.

Start small. Here are our suggestions:

  • Adding more fruits and vegetables to your meals
  • Cutting down on over-processed foods and sugary drinks
  • Adding more fiber to your diet
  • Drinking less soda and more water
  • Choosing leaner cuts of meat

Also, be mindful of your serving portions and eat only to feel satiated, but not full.

Get good sleep

Adults need 7 or more hours of sleep every day. However, the CDC reveals that 1 out of 3 American adults doesn’t get quality sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, it’s more difficult to focus, and you have a higher risk of developing chronic medical conditions such as obesity, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, mental illness, and stroke.

Here are some tips to help you get better sleep:

  • Avoid consuming caffeinated drinks at night
  • Go to bed at the same time every evening
  • Do not use any electronic devices and turn off your television at least 1 hour before bedtime

Become more organized

Your days are hectic, and the busier your schedule is, the higher the chances that you will prioritize productivity over health and safety. Unfortunately, all the business can result in emotional and physical burnout, an increased risk of accidental injury, and a weakened immune system.

Here are some ways to help you get organized:

  • Do not be afraid to ask for help
  • Plan your schedule so you have lots of time to get everything done
  • Remember that it’s okay to say no once in a while

Make health a priority this 2023

It’s important to place a priority on maintaining your health. After all, optimal health is the foundation of everything we want in life. It’s easy to put off that health screening and medical check-up, but why not make time for a doctor’s visit for a health concern that has been bothering you?

Also, be sure to create a list of emergency phone numbers, including emergency services, your primary care doctor, and Physicians Premier, your local Corpus Christi ER. Make a list visible in your home and be sure that your children know how to dial the numbers and give directions to your home if needed.
