Jumpstart 2022 with Healthy Resolutions
We are already a couple of weeks into the new year, and you must have already made your resolutions. Does your list include goals for a healthier life?
The start of a new year is a great opportunity to recommit to your overall well-being. However, we know that making changes to your habits – no matter how well-meaning – can be difficult. So if you are looking for ideas for new year’s resolutions that are sustainable; ones that you can actually stick to, think about looking past the huge ones and consider making smaller goals that will have a long-term impact.
Here are some tips from Physicians Premier, your emergency room in Corpus Christi, so you can stay healthy this year with sustainable goals.
Make quantifiable goals
Most people make this common mistake of setting vague resolutions such as “I’ll take steps to be healthier this year.” Instead, set specific goals, with an achievable, tangible outcome. Here are some examples:
- “I’ll get at least seven hours of sleep every night.”
- “I’ll drink eight glasses of water every day.”
- “I’ll meditate for 30 minutes twice a week to help relieve stress.”
- “I’ll apply sunscreen whenever I plan on being out for more than 30 minutes.”
1. Eating better
If eating better is one of your goals for this year, make a plan on how you can achieve this with sustainable resolutions. Small goals are easier to stick to and can help you eat better and boost overall health. For instance:
- “I’ll limit my soda intake to one can a day.”
- “I will eat at least two servings of fruits every day.”
- “I will prepare my family’s meals every weekend so we can eat healthier meals.”
2. Exercising regularly
Specificity matters, especially when you are setting exercise-related goals. Plan exactly how long and how often you will exercise, and you’ll be more successful. If one of your goals is to be active this year, you can set specific goals like:
- “I’ll go on a 30-minute walk every afternoon.”
- “I’ll take the stairs instead of the elevator.”
- “I’ll exercise on the treadmill for 20 minutes for 4 days a week.”
3. Letting go of nasty habits
All of us have bad habits that contribute to poor health. When quitting bad habits, your determination is built one day at a time. Every day will only make you stronger! Trust in the process – and keep in mind that time will help you let go of your bad habit once and for all.
Physicians Premier, your emergency room in Corpus Christi, would like to encourage you to make your health a top priority this year. As you focus more on your overall health and well-being, you reduce your risk of certain illnesses, diseases, and injuries.
