Tips to Have a Healthy Holiday Season
Holidays are a time of joy and relaxation. But the stress of finding the perfect gifts or organizing an amazing Christmas dinner party, bad eating habits and the lack of physical activity can wear even the best of us down.
So, how can one stay sane and healthy in the hectic weeks ahead and avoid a trip to the ER in Corpus Christi, TX?
Here are a few tips:
Stay Active During the Holidays
Staying active and exercising are just as important during the holidays as it is during any other time of the year. Just because you finally have the time to relax and decompress, it doesn’t mean that you should turn into a couch potato. Try to incorporate some exercise into your daily routine at least four to five times a week. Replace your regular gym sessions with sledding, ice skating, or skiing.
Eat Healthy and Moderately
You may think that gaining some weight is normal during the holidays, but it doesn’t have to be! Eating as healthy as you possibly can and practicing moderation is the key to staying healthy. Cook at home, eat smaller, more frequent meals, and double on your veggie intake.
Reach Out and Give a Helping Hand
Unfortunately, holidays are also a time of depression, stress, and anxiety for many people, so pay close attention to all those around you. If you have friends or colleagues that are alone for the holidays, invite them to spend time with you. Don’t forget about the less fortunate as well and try to help, whether through volunteering or giving out things you no longer need.
Treat Yourself
Shopping for gifts, dinners with family, and decorating the house can get pretty exhausting. Don’t forget to take care of yourself also. Whether it’s something as simple as a good night’s sleep or a day of rest where you only do things for yourself – like reading or getting a massage – self-care is essential to make sure you’re also enjoying the most wonderful time of the year.
The holiday season is supposed to be a time of celebration and happiness, but can often become a real challenge, both physically and emotionally. Follow our tips for a healthy holiday season. When in doubt, always reach out to your doctor or contact us at Physicians Premier.
